Caring Teachers and Warm Environment
Finding trustworthy childcare is tough in Los Angeles.
I can't say enough good things about my family's experience at SOLCC. From our first moment on campus we were impressed with the school's leadership, the caring teachers and warm environment. We quickly became comfortable after seeing our kids excited about school, showing off a new word or skill they'd learned or sharing stories of playtime with new friends. Finding trustworthy childcare is tough in Los Angeles. Inconvenient hours, high costs or an environment that just doesn't fit. But for us SOLCC became a second home and it's been a real joy watching our children develop, learn and grow there.
A Happy Boy
I feel so blessed
SOLCC is an amazing school! My son has been there for 2 years and he loves it. When I drop him off he runs so fast I can barely get a hug and kiss! All of the staff and each teacher are involved and genuinely care about each child. I have never once worried about my son's safety, health, happiness, or education while at SOLCC. Mrs. Diane has been so helpful and is a great leader. I feel so blessed to be a part of the SOLCC Family.

A Happy Mom
loving and safe hands
My son Lucas started at the SOLCC right after turning 2. His teacher, Miss Lorena, made his transition into the Butterflies class as smooth as possible and I always knew he was in loving and safe hands. Miss Lorena was very helpful during the potty training weeks and was supportive each step of the way. Now as a Happy Heart in Mrs. Arus' class, he is well adjusted and loves going to school! Lucas' favorite parts of school are going to chapel and singing on Thursdays and water play during the summer months. I can't wait for his little sister to turn 2 so she can start at SOLCC also!
A safe place to learn and having fun
They have taught him how to be respectful, care about others, and also to be independent.
We have attended SOLCC since my so was 2 years old. Our experience has been a wonderful one. My son has attended full days of school from the very beginning. Finding a safe place where my child would be learning and having fun was the goal. My husband is a Vice Principal and I am a Director of a children's art program. I visited multiple schools and never got a good feeling that those were a good fit. The moment I walked I into SOLCC, I got the sense of a safe loving community. The children seemed happy and engaged. My son is able to count, do simple math, write his name, knows the alphabet, bows all colors, holds good conversation, and is starting to sight read naturally. He is very high energy and they have worked with him to control his spontaneous impulses. They have taught him how to be respectful, care about others, and also to be independent. The parents at the school are an amazing group and my husband and I have made some life long friends. The school also has fun fundraiser's and events for the community. If you have time to get involved, I'd highly recommend it! I was room Parent for 2 years and it was nice to work closely with the teachers and staff. All the teachers are excellent at the school. Some of my son's favorite's were Ms. Irene, Ms. Kelli, and Ms. Joanna, Ms. Kris, and Ms. Tiffany. The Director of the school, Ms. Dianne and also Ms. Leslie in the office are fantastic people and always helpful. They make it feel like home. I can't say enough good things. I encourage you and your family to join the SOLCC community, you won't regret it!
As a new mom I felt so lucky
My kids have especially enjoyed the Center's summer program
My two daughters attended SOLCC for three years each. As a new mom I felt so lucky to find such a well-run, educational, fun and loving center to send my girls to each day. The school has a wonderful daily routine filled with a mix of outdoor activities, music, art, snacks/lunch, learning and rest-time. I always knew that my children were in excellent hands and been so pleased with all the teachers and other staff at the Center. Everyone is kind, communicative and so loving towards the children. In addition, as a working parent I appreciated the flexible and year-round schedule. My kids have especially enjoyed the Center's summer program which include weekly themes and special activities such as pony rides, puppet shows and drum circles. Several years after my girls graduated from SOLCC, I had a son and knew exactly where to send him for preschool. He has just begun his third year at the Center and loves his teacher and classmates. He is extremely social and has already learned much of what he'll need to start kindergarten. I would recommend SOLCC to any parent who is looking for a preschool. My children and I have had nothing but the best experience at SOLCC. Carol Witter
Big thanks to SOLCC
The school is clean and always so beautifully decorated with art and projects made by the children.
The minute I walked into SOLCC I knew this would be an environment where my son Luke would thrive as an individual and a part of a loving community. The classroom sizes are small and the student/teacher ratio is most desirable and their schedule is very flexible. Now moving into our third year, we couldn't be happier with the staff and teachers. Luke has cultivated a love for learning and has developed positive social bonds with his peers. The teachers make learning fun, creative, and playful. He has received the nurturing and encouragement needed in order to feel safe to explore and discover his place in the world. The school is clean and always so beautifully decorated with art and projects made by the children. SOLCC offers a balanced curriculum; with exposure to music, art, storytelling, interactive outside games, sand and water play and much more! They also provide extra curricular activities such as karate and gymnastics. I feel confident he will enter kindergarden as a well rounded, faith filled student. Big thanks to SOLCC! > Parent KB.
She gives me a kiss, and runs to play with a look of pure joy that cannot be fabricated.
The instant you have a child, your entire view of the world changes. You become a fully-evolved human being. You become more interested in the health and well-being of that God-given creation, than any personal agenda you may have for yourself. The decision to allow any other person or institution to participate in the rearing and shaping of your child is one of the most difficult that we face in the early days of parenthood. The best approach for my husband and me was to turn the decision over to God and allow him to lead us to the place that he knew would bring out the best in our daughter, glorifying Him in the process as He seeks to be an integral part of her little heart.
Sherman Oaks Lutheran Children's Center was the answer to questions we did not even knew we wanted to ask. I leave my daughter every day with a group of educators who are Christians who seek to bring her closer to God while showing her how to develop into a member of the community. To my daughter, Alexandra, it is just her favorite place to be. Every day she wakes up and wants to know if it is a "school day." When I walk her through the gates and drop off her bag, she gives me a kiss, and runs to play with a look of pure joy that cannot be fabricated.
The administrators, Diane and Leslie, set high expectations for the teachers and are committed to ensuring the curriculum not only provides an introduction to concepts for intellectual growth, but more importantly, these children are lead to be independent-thinking, socially mature, gracious little people. The teachers have high expectations, firm rules, and set schedules, the things for which young children yearn. They provide all of this, and they develop a genuine love for my daughter and interest in her health and well-being as a natural consequence. Because their intentions are Christ-centered, they live the Word which is the best introduction I can give my daughter to the Christian faith. Weekly visits to the chapel only serve to enhance her Christian experience. Every night after we put ALex to bed, we eavesdrop on the monitor as she sings the songs they teach to herself and her little sister, Ashley who we plan to enroll when she turns 2 years.

They made the transition easy for my daughters.
I am so grateful for Sherman Oaks Lutheran Children's Center. They made the transition easy for my daughters. The teachers and the staff are wonderful. The kids learn something new everyday and engage in fun and exciting activities. SOLCC has become a part of my family. We will miss them but they will forever be in our hearts as they helped shape and prepare my daughters for the next stage. Thank you SOLCC for all the years of being part of my kids' early education and for making it a wonderful experience for the whole family.
Every Child Is Valued and Important
Good Christian values and social skills that prepared him for kindergarten.
A friend of ours recommended SOLCC for our son who was two at the time. The minute we walked into the school we knew our search was over because it had such a nice warm, comfortable feel. Everyone cares at SOLCC
I transferred my oldest daughter
Everyone cares at SOLCC I had my oldest daughter graduate from the junior kinder program and currently have 2 daughters at SOLCC. My heart and mind is at ease knowing that everyone at the school (directors, teachers, and assistants) are there to take care of my children. I transferred my oldest daughter from another preschool because she would complain that the other kids, especially girls, were very mean to her. The teachers did what they could, but kids will be kids. Because SOLCC is faith based, I feel like the children have a different perspective on friendships. My oldest daughter said that all the kids were so nice and helpful. She loved going to school and loved her friends and teachers. Each and every one of the teachers watches out for all the children, not just for the students in their class. Teachers at SOLCC are masters of their skill to help with transitions, as well as educating our children academically, socially, and spiritually. The directors are so friendly and accommodating and their love of children and their responsibilities to help nurture each child's growth are very apparent. I couldn't wait for my 2 year old to turn 2 so I could send her to this wonderful school. During the summer, they have so many fun things to do and see that I take my children on the days they're not there because I don't want them to miss out! I would highly recommend this school to anyone who wants to enrich their child's life and to be in a safe and loving environment.
General Good Feeling
cleanliness and convenience (hours and location) of the school
My daughter's experience at Sherman Oaks Lutheran Children's Center has been wonderful! She has been attending the school for two years now, since the age of two. Having visited a variety of preschools within the area, I was initially drawn to the amenities, cleanliness and convenience (hours and location) of the school. Not to mention, I just had a general good feeling about SOLCC from the beginning. Fortunately, my instincts were correct. I have found the teachers to be warm and engaging, the administrators to be kind and efficient and the community of families to be supportive and spirited. I am extremely pleased with the choice that we have made for our child and our family.
I recommend SOLCC without any hesitation.
We have had all three of our children go through SOLCC over the past 8 years. The school grounds and multiple playgrounds provide plenty of space for the children to play and grow. But more importantly, Diane and Leslie in the main office provide continuity and a very high level of attention to detail. They live and breath SOLCC and it shows in a fantastic way. There are enrichment programs mixed into the curriculum and there are consistently special guests in science, animals, STEM, etc. to provide a level of exposure and education that would be very difficult to replicate at home. We've had great teachers that are so loving and attentive including Debra, Karina and Arus. I believe that the socialization, friendships, education and bonding that developed with our children during their years at SOLCC gave them a big headstart for elementary school. I recommend SOLCC without any hesitation.
Grown and Excelled
The school focuses on play based learning and weaves academics into the lessons.
"My daughter has grown and excelled so much at SOLCC. She started as soon as she turned 2 and has been at the school over 2 years. The teachers and staff are amazing and really love the children. The school focuses on play based learning and weaves academics into the lessons. The children learn so much and have lots of fun!! I can't say enough great things about our experience at SOLCC. "
Having twins is always a challenge, but SOLCC made it so much easier.
Having a small class is key for him.
"I can't say enough great things about SOLCC! They have been a true blessing to our family. Having twins is always a challenge, but SOLCC made it so much easier.
The student: teacher ratio is WONDERFUL!! My son has developmental and speech delays and SOLCC was able to work with me regarding his schedule and special needs. Having a small class is key for him. It allowed him proper one-on-one time with the teacher while still integrating him into a class setting. My daughter has learned her letters and numbers, along with language and basic math comprehension.
Both my children look forward to going to school every single day and love the lifelong friends and loved ones they’ve made there.
Thank you Diane and Leslie...and thank you SOLCC!
I would highly recommend this school to families that are looking for a wonderful school experience for their child.
My son has been attending Sherman Oaks Lutheran Children center for a year. When looking at preschools for my son, I was looking for a safe and clean school with a classroom environment that would be nurturing. When I walked into SOLCC, the staff was welcoming and engaging with the children, classrooms were clean and organized, children's artwork was displayed, both play yards were full of appealing things for the children to play with and climb on, and the overall atmosphere of the school was warm and inviting. My son has thrived at SOLCC. Being an early childhood educator myself, I am very happy with the weekly themes that are taught; they are fun and hands on for the children. The small class size was very important to me because it positively benefited my son in both learning achievement and improved socialization skills. Both my son's teachers have been amazing. The staff is caring; they all have positive attitudes, are patient, and motivate the children. I am very happy with the school as a whole and our family has enjoyed being a part of the fun family and church community activities and events the school has made possible throughout the year. Our family is moving, and when looking at new schools I have not been able to find one that compares to SOLCC. I would highly recommend this school to families that are looking for a wonderful school experience for their child.
I Am So Thankful For My Kids Time At SOLCC
It has been just as hard for me to say goodbye, as it is for my kids.
Sherman Oaks Lutheran Children's Center has been an integral part of the growth and development of my children's early childhood. It is a community of families. My sons have learned so much and had so many positive experiences here. The individual attention and encouragement that the teachers give the students is priceless. All of the staff works together in caring for the kids. The teachers know and care about all of the students, not just the ones in their class.
It is true that it takes a village to raise a child, and S.O.L.C.C. becomes a huge part of the children's village. My children's first experience in school has been so wonderful! They really love school, and are completely prepared to move onto the next phase after leaving here. It has been just as hard for me to say goodbye, as it is for my kids.
My kids will always remember their teacher Mrs. Deborah. She has provided them with so much love and knowledge. The have gained so much confidence from being in her class. It is amazing how well she prepares them for kindergarten. The leave her ready for the next phase in their education. The experience of being in her class will always stay with them, and with me. I am so thankful for my kid's time at S.O.L.C.C. They started as toddlers and finished as big kids, confident and ready for their next step. My family will always remember and cherish our time here!
I spent countless hours researching and visiting pre-schools
I watched him grow out of his shyness, tackle the alphabet and perform at school events like a pro.
Like many other parents, I spent countless hours researching and visiting pre-schools around the area for my son. After a few frustrating months of not being able to find the right school for him, my husband suggested that I visit the place that he drove by every morning on his way to work. This place turned out to be S.O.L.C.C. The moment I walked into the school, I knew in my heart that I had found the right place, and seeing my shy son interact with Diane and ask to play in the playground was the final decision maker. As we walked out of the door after the tour, he asked me if he was coming back to go to school here. When I told him yes, I was expecting the usual, “I don’t want to, I want to stay home with you and the baby”, instead to my surprise, he simply nodded and said “O.K” During the year that my son attended S.O.L.C.C, I watched him grow out of his shyness, tackle the alphabet and perform at school events like a pro. His teacher Mrs. Deborah was like an angel sent from God. She provided just the right amount of love and structure, creating the perfect learning environment for a growing little boy. The things that he learned from her have set a strong foundation for him to build on, and I am proud to say, that he is an excellent student and loving older brother to my two girls. I now have my 4 year old attending the school and as we walk in every morning, she is greeted by name by all the teachers in the yard. All the staff at S.O.L.C.C is so attentive and loving, they make each child feel special and loved, even my 1 year old waves and smiles when she sees those gates! S.O.L.C.C is so much more than a pre-school and day care center. They have provided love, guidance and wonderful memories for my family, as well as friendships that we will cherish for many years to come.
I Wish My Kids Never Grew Up!
I knew I found a very special place.
I am a mother of two children. My son, now 7 years old, attended Sherman Oaks Lutheran Children's Center for 4 years and now my daughter who is 3 yrs old is in her second year at the school. When it came time for my husband and I to look for daycare/preschool for my son who was at that time 2 years old. I started to hunt around the neighborhood. I visited several in-home daycares and many private preschools. It wasn't until I visited SOLCC one morning that I new I had found a very special place.
That morning I arrived unannounced and the director was most welcoming and sincere. She promptly gave me a tour of the entire preschool. The teachers made me feel so comfortable and my son - who is usually rather clingly – surprisingly made himself at home and started playing on the playground equipment. My search ended and I knew we had found the right place.
I cannot express in words what an incredibly special place this preschool is. The teachers are so happy – even at 7am in the morning! They are so dedicated to their profession. They are passionate about children and at the same time they are consumate professionals in all that they do. Some of the most impressive incidents include my son’s first teacher successfully potty-training him within a week. My son was 2 and a half at the time, and his teacher told me one day while I was dropping him off that he was showing every indication of being ready to be fully potty-trained. (I didn’t even know such “indicators” existed!!) I trusted her and brought several changes of clothes the next day and what I thought was going to be a long process was timely, fast and tear-free for everyone!!
All of the teachers are required to have college level classes in early childhood education/development. They prepare lesson for their children every day and follow a sensible daily schedule that really works for the kids. The level of commitment of these teachers to their vocation and to their school is something to behold. Most of the teachers have been there 5 or more years and one has been there for more than 20 years AND she is the one who is most often sought after!!
During the summer months, the school offers endless additional activites – with no extra charge – which bring a camp-like fun and excitement to the school. The puppies and the ponies visit, clowns and magicians, water-fun and jumpers. Each week of the summer is dedicated to a different festive theme. This is one my personal favorite offerings because when the summer months arrive, my son, who has long since graduated from this preschool, begs me to attend their summer activies with his sister instead of going to his own summer camp!!
My daughter is now attending SOLCC and she couldn’t be happier. It is sometimes heart-wrenching for me as a full-time working mother to have my little 3 year old in preschool all day, 5 days a week (and she started when she was only 2 years old), but nothing could put my mind at ease faster than the way she runs into her teachers arms every morning when we walk through the school gate. I don’t know if she loves this school more or if I do!!!! When I pick her up in the afternoon, the teachers are holding creative afternoon enrichment activities for the kids who stay later into the evening. My daughter pulls me into her classroom and points out all the endless art activities she has done all which are mounted proudly on the classroom walls. I feel like there is never any “babysitting” that takes place at the school. At every turn, the kids are engaged in meaningful activities like painting, sandbox play, playground time, singing and dancing, cars manipulated by hands, tricycles and hoola hoops, puzzles and books and the list goes on and on and on.
Lastly, and no doubt most importantly, where I am perhps most grateful and amazed by this preschool is that I see important Christian seeds that are being planted in my kids early-on as an important part of their formation. My son now attends a public elementary school and I am so grateful and proud in watching him apply the Golden Rule to his behaviors, choices and interactions with other kids and adults. He is respectful to his teachers, he is sympathetic toward other kids and knows how to fit in and play well. I attribute a lot of these values to the foundation that SOLCC instilled in his formative years.
Sherman Oaks Lutheran Children’s Center is the school I wish my kids never grew out of!!!!
Lots of Attention
they received lots of attention from their teachers
My Highest Recommendation
Thank you SOLCC for such an amazing experience at the most crucial time of growth and development of our children.
Our son has been at SOLCC for the last 2 years and we couldn’t be happier with this preschool. We feel so grateful to have found SOLCC after many months of researching and visiting different schools. SOLCC has the best combination of a very welcoming and nurturing environment along with a balanced educational and play time structure. All the teachers, administrators, and staff are very loving, helpful, and caring. As a pediatrician, I’m frequently asked about recommendations for schools. SOLCC has my highest recommendation without a doubt. We’ll miss the school and the staff dearly as our son is graduating this year. Thank you SOLCC for such an amazing experience at the most crucial time of growth and development of our children.
Nothing but Positive
I have nothing but positive things to say about this amazing preschool
My two children have attended SOLCC since they were 2 years old, and I have nothing but positive things to say about this amazing preschool. It is a warm and welcoming environment, with beautiful outdoor play areas as well as bright and cheery classrooms filled with books, toys and children's artwork. The teachers and staff are experienced, kind, loving, and really take the time to get to know your child and provide for their unique needs. I appreciate that every teacher knows each child, which embodies the community feeling of the school. SOLCC provides a balance of play and academics, which has allowed my kids to grow socially as well as academically. The children who attend the school are happy and well-behaved, and the parents are friendly and easy-going. My daughter is graduating in June and going off to kindergarten in the fall, and she is ready and excited due to her 3 years at SOLCC. Special thanks to Mrs. Diane and Mrs. Leslie, Mrs. Maria, Mrs. Kat and Mrs. Olivia, the best administrators and teachers around!
Our Daughters' First Experience
great atmosphere of learning
As the holidays approach and we give thanks for the many wonderful things that the year has given us, let me say thank you to you and the wonderful faculty and staff at Sherman Oaks Lutheran Children's Center. My daughter Isabel is thriving. The things that she shares with us everyday at home are a real testament to the great atmosphere of learning and community that she is participating in. She sings songs. She sings hymns. She shares her paintings. She names her fiends. She names her teachers. We have to inquire around the school and in her class when we visit to meet all these people who are a part of her life! Young and "old"! We so appreciate the smiles that we receive when we visit. For a pick-up or for more then a minute. We appreciate the reports that we get from the staff...sometimes in anticipation of questions we might ask, and always with comfort and honesty when we do just wonder out loud. We know she is being well cared for. I don't think that I have to tell you how much that means to new parents! So much. Thank you and your staff again. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and all the faculty and staff at SOLCC.

we could not be happier with our kids' intellectual and emotional growth at this school.
SOLCC is an exceptional school, which is well-run and has experienced teachers. Our kids have been attending SOLCC since they were 2.5 years old (in diapers) to now where they are in the Pre-K (essentially T-K equivalent) class. The Director, Ms. Diane, communicates well with parents, is accommodative to the different needs of all families, and ensures a high standard for the curriculum at all class levels. The teachers, many of whom have been there more than a decade, are very focused on the development of the kids. We especially like their attention in preparing the kids for the next level of school, while making sure the kids learn kindness and responsibility. The structured teaching is a great balance of academics (zoophonics, science), arts/crafts (self-expression, holiday themes), and play (sharing, physical development). We were informed of the teaching plan with weekly class calendars and notes from the teacher; this allowed us to track their development and discuss their school lessons at home. We were very lucky to have Ms Arus, Ms Deborah and Ms Kat as our wonderful teachers over the last three years. The facilities (including toys, books and supplies) are clean and in great condition, as the school has improvement projects every year. In the last couple of years, they added new play structures and built brand new cabinets for all the classrooms. Overall, we had a phenomenal experience and we could not be happier with our kids' intellectual and emotional growth at this school.
Research on Pre-K Programs
After a LOT of looking, I am entering next year fully secure
Sherman Oaks Lutheran Children's Center is a home away from home to my two sons, ages 4 and 2. It is full of teachers and families who are warm, engaged, generous and kind. I feel part of such a wonderful community and am truly treasuring my years there. My eldest son started the program at 2 1/2. He has had phenomenally smart teachers throughout. I am always amazed by how well they know him. Because of the small class sizes and selection of teachers he is always placed in a class with a teacher that is a great match for his needs. He is now 4 and will be entering Pre-K next year. I have done a fair amount of research on Pre-K programs in the area as I want to ensure he is fully prepared for Kindergarten. I want to make sure he is ready academically but I also want him to spend a good part of his day running and jumping and climbing (as a 4 year old should). I have quickly realized this can be a very tough combination to find! Many Pre-K programs are too rigorous without enough free play time. Others foster play based activities but fail to meet the child's needs to learn to print and recognize their letters and numbers. After a LOT of looking, I am entering next year fully secure in my decision to have my son in the Pre-K program at SOLCC. The four teachers that teach Pre-K and TK are really quite special. The care and concern they show their students and the way in which they foster a humanitarian spirit is just beautiful. I am so thankful to have found such a quality preschool.
Safe, Caring and Nurturing
SOLCC is a safe, caring and nurturing environment. I am so pleased with how my daughter has grown since attending!
Searching for a Preschool
They were perfect for our son
"We were searching for a preschool over two years ago in the area, but couldn’t decide on a best school for our son. But when we visited the Sherman Oaks Lutheran preschool, administrators, Mrs. Diane and Mrs. Leslie, were extremely warm and welcoming. Teachers our son had in order; Mrs. Maria, Mrs. Arus and Mrs. Deborah. They were perfect for our son at the right time during his development period over the years. They were so loving and caring; you could completely trust them and the school. Our son had a great time, learned a great deal and grew so well there that it will be very sad for us, as he will be graduating in couple of months. We just hope and pray that our son’s kindergarten/elementary school would be almost as good as this school. Our second son will definitely be attending this school in the very near future as well."

Teachers who truly want to be with your pre-schoolers
I have been so incredibly thrilled with my experience there I wanted to share
"I have two sons who have attended SOLCC - and I have been so incredibly thrilled with my experience there I wanted to share - please call today as they could have a few spots left open for fall. My older son atttended for 2 years, he joined mid-year at about 4 years old and was given special attention the entire time. He was a "high strung" child and often was aggressive, we ended up leaving his previous school hoping he could get more attention and better directon at SOLCC. While we were working with him at home, the staff there was fantastic at re-directing him and took the extra step to keep him busy and fulfilled. They were in constant contact with us about his progression, and about what we could do for him at home. Their suggestions were "right on" and I really feel we worked together and accomplished behavioural improvement. My youngest son has been there for about 2 years now - he started at SOLCC the minute he turned 2 as they will enroll children without being potty trained. SOLCC was fantastic with that too - as he was fully potty trained before 2 1/2. He never even slept with a pull up. The last two years he has learned to count, learned letters and most importantly - learned manners. Diane, the director there is just the sweetest lady and has always made me and my family feel like we are all family there at the school. She is head of a staff of wonderfully nurturing and educated teachers who truly want to be with your pre-schoolers, they don't look at dealing with the students as "just a job". I've had friends who have tried various preschools and never felt completely safe or content with the experience their child was having. I can honestly say that I have never had a single doubt that choosing SOLCC for my child's first school setting is one of the best decisions I have ever made.
We Couldn't be Happier
small classrooms where they received lots of attention
We Have Been Extremely Thrilled
The teachers and staff are so warm, responsive and nurturing.
We sent our boy/girl twins to SOLCC right when they turned 3. Our twins just started kindergarten. We have been extremely thrilled with our experience at SOLCC. The teachers and staff are so warm, responsive and nurturing. I know my children were well-cared for in a loving Christian environment when they were attending SOLCC. The school facility is clean and there are so many educational toys inside the classrooms and in the ‘big room’. The outdoor play areas are well shaded with lots of outdoor toys and climbing structures and slides for the preschoolers to work on their muscles and get out their abundant energy.

We Love Our Little Sherman Oaks Lutheran Children's Center!
The school combines warmth, supportive staff, and a nurturing environment
We love our little Sherman Oaks Lutheran Children's Center!
Our oldest son attended this school for 2 years and it was truly a positive experience for him. The school combines warmth, supportive staff, and a nurturing environment to ensured the kids are getting the proper education, building friendships, and spiritual growth. Mrs. Nixon, the Director of the school is always available to support parents and families as any dedicated person will do. AND her smile is contagious!
Like many parents, we visited a handful of pre-schools around the area and we knew right away SOCC was the right fit. The facility is connected to the Church where the kids visit twice a week. Our son still sings all the wonderful songs he learned and he looks forward visiting the teachers he had. We are now into our 3rd year at SOCC, our youngest daughter will be attending this fall. We trust her experiences will be as fulfilling as our last.
Wonderful place for a young child to learn
each child receives plenty of one-on-one attention
Sherman Oaks Lutheran Children’s Center is a wonderful place for a young child to learn and grow in his or her early life. As a teacher for the past twenty years, I entered the process of finding a preschool for my son with a very discerning eye. I did my share of visiting possible preschools in the area, but none compared overall to what I found at the Children’s Center. As a result, my husband and I sent our first son, and then our second, to the Children’s Center for their preschool years. Our children and our family had a wonderful experience and have many fond memories of our time there. This is what we loved about SOLCC: The physical plant feels secure with its all encompassing gates and doorway cameras. Once inside, there is a very child-friendly and welcoming environment. The play structures and facilities are plenty to keep young energetic bodies excited. A second equally well-equipped playground in the back gives alternatives. The school is kept very clean. The classrooms are colorful and inviting with shelves of books and toys at the ready. The classrooms and hallways display a plenitude of children’s work. The small class size guarantees each child receives plenty of one-on-one attention from his teacher. The curriculum is age-appropriate, and I liked knowing that all of the teachers at a particular age level teach concepts at the same time for consistency. Both of my sons were excited and proud to share their work with my husband and me. They were very well prepared when leaving preschool and entering their kindergarten classes. The staff and teachers at the school are very warm, friendly, and helpful. It is clear that they understand how pre-school children learn best by incorporating activities which address all types of learners. As a parent, my questions and concerns were always addressed in a timely manner. All members of the school get to know all of the children regardless of the child’s specific classroom placement. Both of my sons had very positive experiences with their preschool teachers. There are many extra functions and activities throughout the year which add to the strong sense of community at Sherman Oaks Lutheran Children’s Center. My sons felt at ease at the school quite quickly and continue to enjoy stopping by to say hello. The summer camp program, twice yearly child-centered “sings,” Halloween pumpkin carving, and family dinner nights tie the members of the community together. Like our family, this is true even though we are not members of the Lutheran church. Susan Wlcek
